Student Success TipsTip #59 Gently Set Boundaries with
People
Do you share living space with others?
You may need to kindly let them know when you aren’t able to
chat or go out for pizza or watch TV or do whatever it is that is low on
your list of what’s important.
Before I go further, I’ll clarify.
Relationships are more important than school work.
But you know the difference between meaningful bonding and
goofing off. So you make the call here as to when to say “Let’s hook
up later.”
You know how it can be, you tell yourself you’re going to study
and then someone comes up and wants to talk or distract you in some way.
Say something like this, “I’d love to spend some time with
you later. Right now, I need
to finish this assignment. Could
we get together in two hours?”
Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get that work done.
You may want to say, “Could we go out Saturday?”
They may not like you’re not being immediately available, but
as long as they aren’t having an emergency and as long as they really
do care about you, and you speak to them nicely, they will understand. ***************************************** For all 101 Tips on Student Success as a download you can get right now, go to Success Store While you're there, check out my other downloadable
