#29 Be Aware That Time is
Your Currency
When I’m talking with participants in my “More Goodies, Less
Effort” seminars, I tell them “No amount of time is enough if you
don’t know how you’re going to spend it.”
I often hear from my clients how they just don’t have enough
time in the day. I’ll ask, “to do what, exactly?” Often the answer
is something of high value, such as “to spend more time with my
friends” or “to sit back and just listen to music.”
And yet, if they are pressed, they would admit that throughout
the day they had spent time on trivial matters, such as obsessing over
something that happened long ago, long after the moment is over and the
lesson has been learned. Or they may allow others to waste their time
and let it go on because they won’t set boundaries for fear of
“hurting their feelings.”
More often than not, the time passes without conscious regard for
how it’s being spent. Time is your currency, be aware of how you’re
spending it.
If you don’t elevate many of your actions to purposeful
decisions, you’re likely to be spending most of your day on someone
else’s agenda, or worse, no agenda at all.
