Extra Credit Warning!

Think twice before you even ask.

The surprising truth about asking for extra credit is that your teachers don’t think highly of your asking.

Although you are offering to do extra work, it also means the professor must do extra grading.  The problem goes beyond that, however.  It’s just not good form to ask the prof if you can do something extra when you haven’t done the basics well.  It sends the wrong message.  Know what I mean?

Bottom line: Don’t even bother asking if you can do extra credit.
